Title of the Innovation: An Improved Process for the Preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane.
Brief About Innovation
This invention relates to a catalytic vapor phase process for the preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane. Previous methods has got its own limitation in terms of optimum reaction temperature, no control of side product like perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB), tedious product separation procedures and so on. Based on the limitations, none of the methods are viable for commercial exploitation. In view of the limitations of the processes of the methods there is a need to develop an improved process for the preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane which obviates the said drawbacks. The present invention provides a novel process for preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane using co-precipitated Chromia-Alumina catalyst impregnated with zinc chloride.

Product has fire extinguishing application in strategic and occupied areas and also used in aerosols for medical application.
Status of Commercialization: Commercialised to one client in Gujarat.
